Novel isolate of Cladosporium subuliforme and its potential to control Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri Kuwayama (Hemiptera: Liviidae)

Abstract Background Citrus fruits are economically and nutritionally important but have been severely affected by Huanglongbing disease (HLB), its natural spread is mainly the Asian Psyllid , Diaphorina citri Kuwayama (Hemiptera: Liviidae). Chemicals often used to control this pest, not sustainable. Meanwhile, there few environmentally friendly bioinsecticides D. in China. Results In study, an entomofungal pathogen wz-1 was isolated from a carcass field, which resulted cumulative mortality rate of 75.27% adult 7 days after inoculation spore suspension. It identified as Cladosporium subuliforme based on morphological analysis well sequence several molecular markers (Internal Transcribed Spacers, Translation Elongation Factor 1-α Actin). Remarkably, lethality reached 53.13%, 48 h treatment with aqueous phase extracts wz-1. Hydroxyquinoline phytosphingosine were potentially active metabolites using LC–MS. Conclusions The entomopathogenicity bioinsecticidal potential C. previously unknown. Obtained results showed that both spores can effectively kill providing available fungal resource theoretical basis for biocontrol HLB insect vector .
